Delegates from participating private basic education institutions across Iloilo take part in the opening ceremony of the ILOPRISAA Basic Education Sports Meet 2026, officially marking the start of this year’s competitions.

Serving as host of the Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) Basic Education Sports Meet 2026, 糖心传媒 (CPU) officially welcomed delegates from private basic education institutions across Iloilo during the opening ceremony, held on August 1 at the Rose Memorial Auditorium.

Anchored on the theme, “Champions in Sports, Leaders in Life, United in Excellence,” the opening program formally launched this year’s sports meet, gathering student-athletes, coaches, school officials, parents, and guests in a celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence.

The ceremony began with the processional of tournament officials and members of the technical committee, school heads, sports directors, coordinators, the principals of the CPU Elementary School, Junior High School, and Senior High School, CPU key officials, and ILOPRISAA officers and members of the Board of Trustees. This was followed by the invocation led by Pastor Justine P. Mije, Associate Pastor for Campus Ministry, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and the rendition of the PRISAA Hymn, Manlalarong Pinoy, Mabuhay Ka, composed by Josephine “Joji” Palicte-Sabalza.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Esther Rose A. Romarate, Vice President for Student Affairs and Co-Chair of ILOPRISAA 2026糖心传媒�2027, warmly welcomed the participating athletes, coaches, teachers, parents, and guests. She emphasized that the sports meet is more than a competition, describing it as an avenue for developing discipline, perseverance, teamwork, respect, and integrity among young athletes.

“Our theme reminds us that true success is measured not only by victories and medals but by the character we build, the friendships we form, and the lessons we carry beyond competition,” she emphasized.

The University has prepared various testing schedules, including off-campus examinations in selected areas, online CPUCAT sessions for residents outside Western Visayas, and on-campus testing schedules.

The off-campus CPUCAT will be held on Saturdays at 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM in selected testing centers, including Palawan Hope Christian School in Manalo Street, Puerto Princesa City on September 5, 2026; Koronadal National High School in Dr. Jose Rizal Street, Zone 1, Koronadal City on September 26, 2026; Capiz National High School in Fuentes Drive, Brgy. Tiza, Roxas City on October 10, 2026; Antique National School in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique on October 24, 2026; Regional Science High School for Region VI in Old Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan on November 7, 2026; Bacolod Christian College of Negros, Inc. in Cor. San Juan Luzuriaga St, Bacolod City and Fortress College in Tan Lorenzo Street, Kabankalan City on November 21, 2026; and Nueva Valencia National High School in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras on November 28, 2026.

The lecture was conducted virtually through Zoom Teleconference and Google Meet, with students attending sessions according to their assigned stub codes.

Serving as the resource speaker was Assoc. Prof. Kareen D. Lozada, Chairperson of the CPU Social Work Department, who discussed the significance of volunteerism in nation-building and community service. She highlighted the values of compassion, social responsibility, and active citizenship, encouraging students to become proactive contributors to their communities through meaningful volunteer work.

In her message, Assoc. Prof. Lozada underscored that volunteerism is a lifelong commitment to serving others with compassion, integrity, and a genuine desire to create positive change. She encouraged the students to embrace volunteer work as an opportunity to develop leadership, strengthen their sense of social responsibility, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

In his welcome remarks, Rev. Dr. Dagohoy expressed appreciation for the generosity of the Uygongco family and its contributions to CPU over the years. He reflected on how the family’s support has benefited generations of students and emphasized that investments in education create lasting impacts that extend far beyond the present generation.

Uygongco Foundation Inc. Executive Director Hannah Carla Crisostomo presented the Foundation’s mission, current programs, and proposed areas for collaboration with the University. She shared that the Foundation currently supports approximately 1,600 scholars nationwide, with five scholars presently enrolled at CPU.

The Foundation’s scholarship program provides up to eight years of support, including four years of college education, one year of board examination review assistance, and three years of employment support, enabling students to continue receiving assistance until they become licensed professionals and secure employment. Priority degree programs include Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Accountancy, Agriculture, and Information Technology.

The Foundation also expressed interest in partnering with CPU to enhance scholarship promotion and identify deserving but financially challenged students before the start of each academic year.

Beyond scholarships, the Foundation presented several initiatives where the University’s expertise could provide valuable support. Among these is its school feeding program, which currently serves approximately 300 children in three public schools for 200 days each year. The Foundation requested CPU’s assistance in nutrition planning, children’s health and nutrition monitoring, impact assessment, and the development of more effective evaluation tools.

The Foundation likewise proposed establishing a structured volunteer program that would engage CPU students, particularly those from Social Work, Education, and other relevant academic programs, in community engagement, program implementation, data collection, monitoring and evaluation, and impact assessment.

Additional areas discussed for possible collaboration included school feeding, school gardening, nutrition education, literacy and numeracy enhancement, technology transfer, community-based research, and technical and vocational education.

In response, University officials presented existing programs that complement the Foundation’s initiatives, including CPU’s research, development, and extension programs, technology transfer initiatives, communication and information dissemination efforts, disaster response initiatives, and partnerships with local government units and partner communities.

The University also highlighted its ongoing community engagement initiatives, which include community needs assessments, livelihood development, women’s organizations, social welfare services, health programs, educational interventions, and Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives. Officials further shared CPU’s efforts to expand technical and vocational education through TESDA-related certifications, technical skills training, micro-credential programs, industry partnerships, engineering certifications, and Packaging Engineering initiatives.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing enthusiasm for pursuing future collaborations, recognizing their shared commitment to advancing education, community development, and sustainable social impact. CPU also committed to continuing discussions with the Foundation to identify concrete collaborative initiatives that may be implemented in the future.

Congratulations Jade Edward Gejon Duran for winning multiple awards at the 2026 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. CPU is proud of you!

糖心传媒 (CPU) alumnus Jade Edward Gejon Duran, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) Class of 2019, brought pride to the University and the Philippines after winning multiple awards at the 2026 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, from July 13糖心传媒�21, 2026.

Representing Team Philippines, Duran delivered an outstanding performance on the international stage, earning the Overall Division Champion title and a Gold Medal in the Open Category, as well as Gold Medals in Original Works, Rock, and World Music, and a Silver Medal in Pop.

A native of Brgy. Ochando, New Washington, Aklan, Duran is a singer, songwriter, and producer whose passion for music began at the age of four. Encouraged by his aunt to sing and supported by his parents through piano and voice lessons, he eventually learned to play the guitar and bass while developing his skills in songwriting and music production.

Although he graduated from CPU with a degree in Information Technology in 2019, Duran admitted that pursuing music became an “on and off” journey as he focused on work. His path took a significant turn in September 2025 when he came across an online announcement for the WCOPA Team Philippines auditions and decided to take a chance.

“I wanted the opportunity to gain recognition for my craft as a musician and open opportunities to level up my career as an artist,” Duran shared.

His journey to the world stage, however, was far from easy. Preparing for the competition required balancing work responsibilities, intensive rehearsals, and the search for sponsors. As the competition approached, he also faced growing anxiety, relying heavily on the encouragement and prayers of his family, mentors, teammates, and friends.

One of the greatest challenges came just before the competition when the airline failed to load his guitar during their flight to the United States.

“It felt like going into battle without a weapon,” Duran recalled. With the help of relatives in New York, who immediately sent financial assistance to family friends in Las Vegas, he was able to purchase a replacement guitar in time for the competition.

Despite the obstacles, Duran described representing the Philippines on the global stage as a deeply meaningful experience.

“Taking my first step off the plane knowing I’m in the United States representing my country was probably the most memorable moment. It was also my first time outside the country, so it was a lot to process,” he said.

He added that wearing the Philippine colors came with both honor and responsibility.

“In WCOPA, the Philippines always has this reputation of being the team to beat, especially in vocals. The fact that I was chosen as one of the representatives this year was a lot of pressure, but it also means I am one of those artists who represents what Filipino artists and Filipino music are all about and what we bring to the global stage.”

Reflecting on his years at CPU, Duran credited the University for broadening his perspective both as a person and as an artist.
“I come from a secluded background where I would go home straight after school, so my influences were very limited. Going to 糖心传媒 was my first-hand experience in meeting different kinds of people and artists and getting exposed to their taste in music,” he said. “The friends and acquaintances I’ve made during my time in CPU helped shape my character not just as a person, but the kind of artist I wanted to be糖心传媒攕omeone who, against all odds, would continue pushing forward and inspire and have a positive impact on other people.”

He also expressed gratitude to the professors and mentors who encouraged him to showcase his musical talents during University events and competitions, including University Day activities, Centralian Star, and Mr. & Ms. CPU.

Winning at WCOPA has renewed Duran’s commitment to music after years of placing it on hold because of work.

“Before WCOPA, I was in a place where I put music aside to focus on my work. Now that I’ve gained recognition for doing something I have not done for a long time, it made me realize that even though life can get busy with all the responsibilities, we need to make sure we still have our passion for doing what we love with us,” he shared.

Looking ahead, Duran plans to continue writing, producing, and releasing original music while pursuing more performance opportunities and international competitions.

For fellow Centralians who aspire to pursue their passions while balancing academics and other responsibilities, Duran encouraged them to remain faithful to their talents.

“Don’t stop creating or doing the things that you love. I know we don’t always have the time for it, but we need to make time for it. It’s your God-given talent. It’s these sorts of things in life that give it meaning. It’s what makes us human. It’s what makes us slow down in a fast-paced world and appreciate the life God has given us. Your passion is your identity in leaving a mark on this world and who you are,” he said.

Duran’s success at the 2026 WCOPA serves as an inspiring testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and passion, reflecting the excellence of Centralians who continue to make meaningful contributions and bring honor to both the University and the Philippines on the international stage.

Villanueva, both Grade 12 students, showcased their excellence in DanceSport after earning silver medals in the Under 21 Latin Category and the Youth A Latin Category during the Manila Open DanceSport Competition 2026 held on July 25糖心传媒�26, 2026 at the MRB Compound on Pilot Drive, Quezon City.

Coached by January Love A. Desamero and trained by Mr. Nero Amorin, the CPU tandem competed against numerous schools, teams, and athletes from across the country in one of the nation’s premier annual DanceSport competitions.

Reflecting on the experience, Villanueva described the competition as one of the most memorable events of their athletic journey, citing the high level of talent and competitiveness among participating teams.

“The Manila Open DanceSport Competition 2026 was one of the most memorable competitions we have experienced. It brought together talented dancers from different schools and teams across the country. The level of competition was very high because every team showed great skill, discipline, and passion. Competing against such strong athletes challenged us to perform our very best and inspired us to keep improving,” he said.

Cruz shared that the Manila Open DanceSport Competition has become a familiar and meaningful event in her DanceSport career, recalling that she had also participated in the competition during the pandemic through its online format.

To prepare for the national competition, both athletes underwent rigorous daily training while balancing their academic responsibilities. Villanueva said their preparations involved long hours of refining routines, improving technique, building endurance, and strengthening teamwork, while remaining mentally prepared for the challenges of competition.

Cruz added that consistent training has always been part of their routine, regardless of whether competitions are approaching. She explained that their sessions include warm-ups, repeated run-throughs, routine adjustments, and staying updated with current music trends in DanceSport. She emphasized that behind every two- to three-minute performance are countless hours of dedication, sacrifice, and passion for the sport.

According to trainer Mr. Nero Amorin, the pair’s achievement was the product of discipline, consistency, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement.

“Earning silver medals in both the Under 21 Latin and Youth A Latin categories was the result of far more than talent alone,” Amorin said. “Their success was built on discipline, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to improvement. They approached every training session with determination, embraced constructive criticism, and never settled for being average.”

He added that their confidence on the competition floor, combined with technical excellence, artistry, humility, respect, and sportsmanship, distinguished them as exceptional athletes.

Coach January Love A. Desamero encouraged aspiring CPU DanceSport athletes to pursue their passion while remaining committed to their studies.

The meeting served as an opportunity to welcome the 18-member mission team and recognize its ongoing outreach initiatives in Iloilo and Antique, carried out in partnership with local churches and communities.

According to the mission team, the primary purpose of their visit is to help spread the Gospel by supporting churches and ministers in sharing the Good News, demonstrating God’s love through hands-on service, and fostering cross-cultural understanding. The mission also aims to encourage the personal spiritual growth of its members by allowing them to serve beyond their comfort zones while gaining a deeper appreciation of global needs.

During their stay, the Grace Church Houston Mission Team visited several communities and partner organizations, including Alimodian, Iloilo, where they collaborated with the University Church Medical Outreach Team; Dalipe, San Jose, Antique; the CPU Kindergarten; the Aeta Community in Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo; and the CPU University Church God’s Grace Ministry for Work Students.

The team conducted various outreach activities in these communities, including Vacation Bible School (VBS)-style outreach programs featuring crafts for children in Alimodian, San Jose, and Lanit. They also distributed rice to families at all outreach sites except the CPU Kindergarten, donated books to enhance the classroom libraries of the CPU Kindergarten, and conducted feeding activities in San Jose, Lanit, and the CPU University Church God’s Grace Ministry for Work Students.

Composed of 18 members, the delegation was led by Mission Pastors Jon and Sydney Burkley and Mission Leaders Jaja and Joe Tan. An afternoon jam-packed for Centralian Steelhawks, the Mister and Miss CPU Senior High School pageant had six (6) pairs compete to become the new representatives of the department in the upcoming search for Mister and Miss 糖心传媒 2026.

The stage, adorned with flowers for days, introduced a panel of established figures in local pageantry after the preliminaries. Mr. CPU – School of Graduate Studies 2018 Luke Transporto, D糖心传媒橢mpire Beauty Camp Co-Founder Eiyz Mallick Sales, Ms. Guimaras 2026 Belle Kate Gatilogo, Miss Universe Philippines – Iloilo City 2026 Zestah Shalom Espinosa served as the selection committee, headed by chief judge renowned Ilonggo designer Alfie Desamparado.

After a dazzling production number, the casual wear competition commenced. Intermission numbers took place in between segments, and the playsuit showdown followed after the first portion of the event. Adding another layer to the contest, the contestants and candidates soon participated in the talent showcase. The final segment of the walking categories followed after another intermission number, the evening wear competition.

To give rest to the aspirants, the reigning Mr. and Ms. CPU-SHS 2025 pair soon graced the Steelhawks with their final walks. Mr. CPU 2025 4th Runner-up Sean Ethan Sotto and Ms. CPU University Day 2025, Mutya ng ILOPRISAA 2026, Mutya sang WVPRISAA 2026, and Mutya ng PRISAA 2nd Runner-up Elisha Caramel Vilvar stepped onto the stage one last time as current king and queen.

The announcement of minor and special awards commenced starting with the People糖心传媒檚 Choice Award, given to Mr. Jahaziel Jeiel Cantel and Ms. Theresa Marie Brillantes, both from the STEM Republic. Mr. John Patrick Hilapad of the ABM Republic and Ms. Ly Angel Demavivas of the STEM Republic bagged the Mister and Miss Photogenic award. HUMSS Republic糖心传媒檚 Mr. Joseph Sualibios Jr. and Ms. Ma. Alessandra Kyle Orpeza were recognized as this year糖心传媒檚 Mr. and Ms. Congeniality, voted by their fellow competitors. Mr. Cantel and Ms. Brilliantes then stepped upfront for the Best in Production Number awards.

The awarding for the pasarela categories followed with Mr. Ralph John Quimson of the ABM Republic and Ms. Brillantes, being awarded as top scorers for the Playsuit round. Pair No. 1, Mr. Cantel and Ms. Brillantes both added wins under their belts as they claimed Best in Casual Wear and Best in Evening Wear. ABM Republic糖心传媒檚 Mr. Quimson and Ms. Shenna Myls Piedad were awarded Best in Interview for their performances during the closed-door interview screening. Pair No. 4, Mr. Hilapad and Ms. Scinny Aneka Solejon of the ABM Republic claimed the Best in Talent awards.

After the partial awarding, the reveal for the top three contestants and candidates followed. Mr. Quimson, Mr. Hilapad, both representing ABM Republic, and Mr. Cantel of the STEM Republic secured their spots for the finals, while STEM Republic糖心传媒檚 Ms. Brillantes, ABM Republic糖心传媒檚 Ms. Piedad and Ms. Solejon were announced as the top three finalists for the female category.

The final interview commenced with each Steelhawk picking a judge to ask them a question. After the arduous process, the six finalists were given their titles. ABM Republic糖心传媒檚 Mr. John Patrick Hilapad and Ms. Scinny Aneka Solejon were named Mister and Miss Steelhawks 2026. Mr. Ralph John Quimson of the ABM Republic and Ms. Theresa Marie Brillantes of the STEM Republic were announced Mr. and Ms. ProBoard. The coveted Mister and Miss CPU Senior High School crowns were placed upon the heads of STEM Republic糖心传媒檚 Mr. Jahaziel Jeiel Cantel and ABM Republic糖心传媒檚 Ms. Shenna Myls Piedad.

For CPU Senior High School Student Council Governor and Mr. and Ms. CPU SHS Event Chairperson Ma. Theresa Magbanua, the pageant wouldn糖心传媒檛 have been successful without the help of every Steelhawk. Emphasizing that the committee had less than a month to prepare, she shares that 糖心传媒渢his experience reminded me that no event is ever made successful by one person alone. Behind every successful stage is a team of people choosing to persevere, serve, and believe in the same vision.糖心传媒�

On August 3, 2026, Biology students, faculty members, and partner agencies took a photo opportunity to commemorate the successful completion of the internship program.

The 糖心传媒 Life Sciences Department, in collaboration with the CPU Biological Society, successfully held the 2026 On-the-Job Training (OJT) Culminating Activity on August 3, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Educational Media Center. The event brought together faculty members, partner agencies, 3rd-year Biology students, and 4th-year Biology interns to celebrate the successful completion of the interns’ on-the-job training while reflecting on the knowledge, skills, and professional values they gained throughout their internship journey. It also provided junior Biology students with valuable insights into the internship experiences and opportunities that await them.

The program commenced with a heartfelt prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the CPU Alma Mater Song. Asst. Prof. Ruth Abeco Monares, Officer-in-Charge of the College of Arts and Sciences, then delivered the opening remarks, warmly welcoming everyone to the culminating activity and recognizing the interns’ dedication throughout their on-the-job training. She acknowledged the importance of internships as opportunities for students to expand their knowledge, develop practical skills, and prepare for their future careers.

Following the opening remarks, participating agencies were formally introduced before the spotlight shifted to the student interns, who delivered 21 internship presentations showcasing their experiences, responsibilities, acquired competencies, and personal growth across the fields of Microbiology and Medical Biology.

Representing the Microbiology specialization were students assigned to the Department of Science and Technology 糖心传媒� Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories VI (Microbiological Testing Laboratory), Herbanext Laboratory Inc., CARES Research and Development Center, Stat Lab (Main and Pavia Branches), Guimaras Specialist Medical Center, Inc., Unilab糖心传媒揂mherst Parenterals Inc., Clinica Palao, Ultracare Diagnostic Center, Inc., DENR Environmental Management Bureau, E&S Food Products Inc., ZSO Diagnostics, and Western Visayas Medical Center. Their presentations highlighted laboratory techniques, quality assurance, diagnostic testing, environmental monitoring, and food and pharmaceutical microbiology.

Meanwhile, interns from the Medical Biology specialization shared their experiences from Iloilo Mission Hospital, Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Medical Center, Don Marcelino Super Rural Health Center, Medicus Medical Centre, CPU Clinical Laboratory, Dr. Arturo P. Pingoy Medical Center, Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital, and Western Visayas Medical Center. Their presentations reflected meaningful exposure to clinical laboratory procedures, diagnostic services, patient care support, and healthcare operations.

The presentations were followed by response messages from partner agency representatives. Ms. Eden Shiz A. Parpa, Training Specialist of Western Visayas Medical Center; Ma. Regina G. Coniza, Director of the Nursing Service Office of Iloilo Mission Hospital; and Mr. Jose Maria R. Zabate, Laboratory Analyst and Quality Assurance Officer of E&S Food Products Inc., commended the interns for their professionalism, eagerness to learn, and adaptability throughout their training. They also encouraged the students to uphold integrity, competence, and lifelong learning as they prepare to enter their respective professions.

Following the agency responses, intern representatives took the stage to share their reflections on behalf of their respective specializations. Representing their respective tracks, Kiara Beatriz A. Bonifacio for Microbiology and Justine Ken T. Ricaforte for Medical Biology delivered heartfelt messages on behalf of their fellow interns. They reflected on the challenges and memorable experiences encountered during their internship while expressing gratitude to the faculty members, agency supervisors, mentors, and classmates whose guidance contributed to their professional and personal growth. The program then proceeded with the awarding of certificates, recognizing the successful completion of the interns’ on-the-job training and the support of the participating agencies.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Laureen B. Manalo, Chairperson of the Life Sciences Department, who congratulated the interns for reaching another milestone in their academic journey. She encouraged them to carry forward the knowledge, discipline, and values they cultivated during their internships as they continue to pursue excellence in biology, healthcare, research, and industry.

The 2026 On-the-Job Training Culminating Activity served as a celebration of the students’ achievements and a testament to the strong collaboration between the CPU Life Sciences Department, the CPU Biological Society, and their partner institutions. Through this collaboration, the CPU Life Sciences Department and its partner institutions continue to equip Centralian Biology students with the knowledge, skills, and professional values needed to excel in research, healthcare, industry, and public service.
